Zimbabwe’s long-time President Robert Mugabe has been put under house arrest as the country’s military continues negotiations to find a new leader. Earlier, the army took control over government offices and the state broadcaster, saying it was targeting “criminals” around the president.The army’s move which began Tuesday with tanks entering the outskirts of Harare raised speculations about a military coup. The leader of Zimbabwe’s War Veterans Association told ITV News that the military had removed Mugabe who has been ruling the country for 37 years.

Manhattan’s Halloween horror: Truck mows down pedestrians in suspected terror attack

Terror returned to haunt the streets of Manhattan as at least 8 people were killed and about a dozen injured when a pick-up truck ran over cyclists and pedestrians alongside the Hudson River on the far west side of lower Manhattan. The driver has been identified as a 29-year-old Uzbek who was shot in the abdomen by the police while he was about to flee after crashing his truck into a school bus.A joint task force of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York City Police Department and other agencies probing the attack have found out that Sayfullo Saipov, the attacker, was a resident of Florida and a a number of other registered addresses in Ohio. He had been previously booked for minor traffic violations. It is also reported that he had commercial license in two states that allowed him to drive large trucks.

Las Vegas concert turns into America’s nightmare

The carnage in Las Vegas has plunged the US into a deep shock. Authorities and eyewitnesses are still trying to come to terms with the massacre that left 59 people dead and 527 injured at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a three-day country music event outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Hotel in Las Vegas on Sunday night. In what is termed as a lone wolf attack the gunman, identified as 64- year-old Stephen Paddock, fired indiscriminately at the people gathered below from the 32nd floor of a hotel before killing himself.
When the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team broke into Paddock’s hotel room they found 23 guns that have been there since September, raising disturbing questions regarding hotel security. 18 additional guns and thousands of rounds of ammunitions and explosives were recovered from his home on October 2.
