Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has invited India’s prime minister-elect Narendra Modi to the G20 summit of the world’s leading and emerging economies to be held in Brisbane in November.
In a tweet, Abbott said he had spoken to Modi and congratulated him on his success. “I look forward to strengthening ties between India and Australia,” Abbott said in his official PM account.
Modi was quick to reciprocate. In a tweeted message, Modi thanked Abbott. “I look forward to a bright future for India-Australia relations,” he said.
Australia has pitched for a greater role for India in the East Asia region and is looking to upscale trade and investment under a business-friendly Modi government in days to come.
