The Indian government has asked China to bring an end to its activities in the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) region. Ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee’s expected visit to China, New Delhi also said that it has raised its concern at the “highest level”.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on May 5, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Gen V K Singh (Retd) said that China is assisting Pakistan in the development of the so-called “China Pakistan Economic Corridor” (CPEC).
Some of the proposed projects under the CEPC are in PoK”, Mr Singh said. Pakistan has been in illegal occupation of parts of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947, he added.
India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on the boundary issue during his visit to Beijing on April 20. During India’s Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to Beijing on April 18, China had said that the two countries need to come halfway to find a solution to the boundary dispute.
China’s activities in the PoK region over the years have been a major cause of concern for India.
