During his May 5 meeting in New Delhi with Party Secretary of Shanghai and Politburo Member of the Communist Party of China Han Zheng, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that strong economic growth in India and China can act as an engine of growth for the global economy.
Mr Modi emphasised that the Mumbai-Shanghai Sister City Agreement laid the foundation for strong relations between the financial capitals of the two countries. He also added that the India-China Provincial Leaders’ Forum was a welcome step towards broadening and strengthening the bilateral relations between India and China.
Mr Han said that Mr Modi’s visit to Shanghai last year had resulted in increased awareness about India. It also led to an increase in the number of people from Shanghai visiting India, he added.
Accompanied by a strong business delegation, Mr Han will interact with a cross-section of leaders from India’s political and business circles during his ongoing visit.
The visit aims to enhance the developmental partnership that was established during China’s President Xi Jinping’s visit to India in 2014.
