India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about a range of issues during their bilateral talks in Berlin, after which both leaders issued a joint statement.
Addressing their bilateral relation as lion and eagle, the Prime Minister said, “The lion and eagle will make good partners.” He added that both leaders discussed India-Germany ties with an open mind, and they spoke about several bilateral and global issues.
Underlining India’s “Make in India” campaign and cooperation with Germany, he said, Germany’s strength is manufacturing. India’s workforce that will be trained in this sector can become the world’s workforce.” He added, “Germany is known for skill development, which is a priority area for us. There is a lot we can learn from Germany.”
He emphasized the inclusion of Germany and India in the UNSC as permanent members and said that the world would gain a lot by this.
Both leaders spoke about several international issues and terrorism was one of them. Mr Modi said that terrorism needed to be defined. “I urge the UN to pass a pending resolution that will define terrorism.” The Prime Minister added, “the way the world is sensitive about nuclear weapons, it should be sensitive about terrorism and nations that harbor terrorists.”
