After 32 years India is all set to host the World Hindi Conference, with the intent to promote the language as a means to employment. The last time the conference was held in India in 1983. The government is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a success. The country made a significant contribution at the recent World Sanskrit Conference in Bangkok.
Legendary Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be a guest speaker. The event is scheduled to be held in Bhopal from September 10 to 12. The Ministry of External Affairs is the principal organiser of the event that will feature a dozen sessions over three days. The main theme of this year’s conference is ‘Hindi Jagat: Vistar avm sambhavnai’ (The world of Hindi: expansion and possibilities), marking a departure from the previous editions which focused primarily on literature.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed officials to have all signboards in Bhopal to be written in Hindi. The CM and other public representatives will also appeal to traders and shopkeepers in Bhopal to have their signboards written in Hindi, said an official of the Public Relations Department. The conference will also see 40 eminent Hindi scholars receiving honours.
“With a sizable population speaking Hindi in India, many still find it difficult to get employment as English has become the preferred language. Therefore the idea is to now change the approach and promote use of Hindi in science and technology, administration, foreign policy, judiciary, and information and technology, among other sectors, to help job creation,” said Joint Secretary (Hindi) Mridul Kumar.
It has come to notice recently that despite Hindi medium students managing to make it to premiere institutions they still struggle to adapt to those surroundings. As a result their performance gets impacted.
