In a pioneering experiment, India looks poised to get a small, compact government, which is expected to deliver smart and effective governance to 1.25 billion people of the country.
In a clear indication that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi will stick to his mantra of “minimum government and maximum governance,” his office has said that the new government will club several related ministries into organic ministries to prevent overlapping functions and turf battles.
“It is a good beginning in transforming entity of assembled ministries to organic ministries. It will bring more coordination between different departments, will be more effective and bring a speed in process,” says a note from the prime minister-designate’s office.
Convergence will be the animating principle wherein one cabinet minister will be heading a cluster of ministries working in complementary sectors.
The note says that the new prime minister is aiming at smart governance, where the top layers of government will be downsized and there will be expansion at the grass-roots level.
Narendra Modi will be sworn in as India’s 15th prime minister at a grand ceremony in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan May 26.
Senior BJP leaders, including Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Shourie, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ananth Kumar are expected to find a place in the Cabinet, said informed sources.
