It’s been a year of Looking East as well as Acting East for India. India’s diplomatic and economic engagement with Southeast Asian and East Asian countries experienced a marked upswing in 2014. The country’s Look East policy morphed into Act East policy under the Narendra Modi government, leading to a multi-pronged acceleration of ties with the countries of the region. Fittingly, India’s diplomatic calendar in 2014 is ending with a visit by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to South Korea, which will intensify multi-faceted ties and set the stage for a visit by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Seoul in the near future.
