delhi-kathmanduIn a landmark step that will enhance connectivity and people-to-people contacts between India and Nepal, the prime ministers of the two countries are set to flag off the direct Delhi-Kathmandu bus service via Sunauli border November 25.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepali counterpart Sushil Kumar Koirala will jointly inaugurate the bus link at a function in Singhadurbar in the Nepali capital, according to The Himalayan Times.

The bus service is part of the Motor Vehicles Agreement between the two nations and will operate on three bus routes – Kahmandu-New Delhi, Pokhara-New Delhi and Kathmandu-Benares.

This service will be operationalised by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). DTC already has Delhi-Lahore bus service, which was set in motion by India’s then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in March 1999.

The one-way fare from the Delhi to Kathmandu will be around Rs 2,300.

The helicopter is designed to meet the needs of both military and civil operators. Manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the helicopter costs $6.5 million. With sound features, the helicopter has been equipped with rocket, air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles and a gun turret It landed in Kathmandu last week.
