India to Pakistan: Stop supporting terrorism, getting Kashmir a delusional dream

kashmir-sushmakashmir-violence1In a hard-hitting statement exposing Pakistan’s duplicity and support in fomenting unrest in Kashmir, India has made it clear to Pakistan that its embrace and encouragement to terrorism won’t succeed and underlined that the dream of Pakistan of acquiring Jammu and Kashmir will never be realised till eternity.

A day after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif alienated New Delhi by asserting that Kashmir will one day be part of Pakistan, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj read out the strongest statement yet on Islamabad’s role in inciting violence in Jammu and Kashmir, which has killed 47 people and left hundreds injured.

‘Don’t make Kashmir a hell of terror’

“Behind Pakistan’s unabashed embrace and encouragement to terrorism lies its delusional though dangerous dream that ‘Kashmir will one day become Pakistan’, as Prime Minister Sharif said yesterday,” said Swaraj, flanked by Ministers of State M. J. Akbar and General (retd.) V K Singh in New Delhi on July 23.

“The whole of India would like to tell Prime Minister of Pakistan that this dream will not be realized even at the end of eternity. The whole of Jammu and Kashmir belongs to India. You will never be able to make this heaven on earth into a terror hell.”

Calling Pakistan’s bluff, the minister hit out at Pakistan’s attempts to glorify the slain terrorist Burhan Wani and stressed that he was “a wanted terrorist Commander of the banned terrorist organisation Hizb ul Mujahideen.”

“He was carrying an award of Rs.10 Lakh on his head because he had perpetrated heinous crimes including murder of elected representatives of local bodies and security forces/personnel.”

Mrs Swaraj blamed Pakistan’s state machinery for inciting violence in Jammu and Kashmir. “Even more condemnable than these deplorable attempts from across our border to incite violence and glorify terrorists is the fact that these attempts have been undertaken by Pakistan’s state machinery in active partnership with UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed and other leading terrorists belonging to internationally proscribed organisations.”

‘Despicable Design’

In a blistering indictment of Pakistan’s “despicable design” in Jammu and Kashmir, the minister underlined that Pakistan has exported weapons and terrorism to the Indian state.

“Pakistan’s dirty money, dangerous terrorists and duplicitous state institutions seek to destabilize the region. The statement of none other than the Prime Minister of Pakistan has betrayed this despicable design.”

“But I would like to repeat that this dream of Pakistan will never be fulfilled,” she stressed.

pakistan-modi-lahoreThe minister’s statement indicates a hardening of stand on Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and violence by the Modi government. Mr Modi  had taken path-breaking initiatives to mend fences with its estranged neighbour, but without much success due to the continued intransigence by Pakistan’s ruling establishment. In out-of-box gestures, Mr Modi had invited Mr Sharif to his swearing-ceremony in May 2014 and sprang a surprise by visiting Lahore to participate in family celebrations of the Pakistani leader in December 2015. But sadly, barely a week after the Lahore visit, Pakistani terrorists struck at the Pathankot air base, derailing attempts to resume dialogue between the two subcontinental rivals.
