Mali under siege: 170 people taken hostage

A week after the Paris terror attacks, the former French colony Mali was attacked by gunmen on November 20. Around 10 terrorists attacked a luxury hotel frequented by foreigners in Mali’s capital Bamako. Terror struck the capital city early in the day and the jihadists have been holding 170 hostages.

The Radisson Blu hotel, located just west of the city centre in a neighbourhood that is home to government ministries and diplomats. “Very early in the morning there was gunfire. Apparently it’s an attempt to take hostages. The police are there and are sealing off the area,” according to security officials. Mali has been facing a crisis with extremist elements attacking the country regularly.

According to some latest reports from Mali, three hostages out of  170 have been killed.
