Within one hundred hours of the Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel in south Kashmir, the Indian Army has turned the heat on the perpetrators and claimed that the top leadership of Pakistan-backed Jaish e-Mohammed has been eliminated.
In a swift and ruthless operation on February 18, the Indian Army, in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir police, gunned down three top commanders of JeM who are suspected to have masterminded the Pulwama terror attack.
Announcing the killing of three Jaish terrorists at a press briefing on February 19, the Indian Army said in a statement that Jaish-e-Mohammad is nothing but a “child” of the Pakistan Army and underlined that there is no doubt that Islamabad “100%” had a role in the terror attack in Pulwama last week.
The Army said that the top leadership of the militant outfit in the Kashmir Valley had been eliminated within 100 hours of the attack.
Among the killed terrorists, two have been identified as Pakistani’s nationals, including Kamran and Abdul Rasheed alias Ghazi. The third terrorist has been identified as Hilal Ahmad, a native of the village where the encounter took place.
According to army sources, Kamran had taken over as the operational commander of JeM after Mufti Waqas, who was killed in an encounter in February last year.
In a grim warning to gun-wielding youth in the Valley, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps Commander Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon said: “You pick up a gun, and you are dead – unless you surrender. This is a message and request to all the mothers of Kashmir. There is a very good surrender policy made by the government so that they can come back into the mainstream.”
Urging Kashmiri mothers to ensure their sons give up militancy and join the mainstream, Mr Dhillon said, “In a Kashmiri society, a mother has a great role to play. Through you, I would request the mothers of Kashmir to please request their sons who have joined terrorism to surrender and get back to the mainstream.”
Referring to Pakistan’s involvement in the worst terror attack in Kashmir, Mr Dhillon pointed finger towards Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-service Intelligence (ISI). “We were tracking down top leadership since the attack. It was being controlled from across by ISI and JeM commanders,” he told reporters.
